Eligibility criteria

To buy a Shared Ownership home you'll need to satisfy the standard Shared Ownership criteria, which you can find on our Shared Ownership page.

For The Oaks priority will be given to those who have a local connection to South Gloucestershire.

What is a local connection of South Gloucestershire?

A local connection is categorised by as one of the following:

  • Applicant lives in South Gloucestershire and has lived in the district for the last two years;
  • Applicant’s mother, father, brother, sister or adult child live in South Gloucestershire and have lived continuously in the area for the last five years;
  • Applicant is permanently employed in South Gloucestershire, or who needs to move to take up a definite offer of paid work, or an apprenticeship and who is unable to commute and has signed or has an offer of a contract for a minimum period of 12 months and work more than 16 hours per week on average and are based in the district for the majority of that time for the purposes of carrying out their employment (at least 70%);
  • Households owed the main housing duty under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017);
  • Some other special reason, e.g. Applicant receives specialist medical treatment in South Gloucestershire which they cannot receive elsewhere.

Making an application to buy

When homes at the development are available to buy we will inform everyone who has registered their interest by email. Please get your application in early to be in with the best chance of getting a home. Homes will then be allocated on a first come first served basis, with priority being given to military personnel over all others.
